The Deanship of Scientific Research and the Deanship of Graduate Studies at Al-Quds University organized the globally recognized academic “Three Minute Thesis” (3MT) competition, held for the first time in Palestine, in cooperation with the university’s Al-Quds Center for Technology and Entrepreneurship (BCITE), under the patronage of its President, Prof. Dr. Hanna Abd Al-Nour.

Prof. Dr. Hanna Abd Al-Nour noted that this competition represents a celebration of the significant scientific research achievements of PhD students. He added that Al-Quds University has been keen to encourage the organization of the competition due to its importance in fostering cross-disciplinary interaction and promoting the ability to communicate in a language accessible to non-specialists. This enables the wider public to become familiar with the disciplines and academic programs offered by the university, providing an important opportunity to attract students to less well-known fields. Finally, it offers researchers a valuable opportunity to devote time to writing for the community with the aim of education and knowledge dissemination.

The Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Maysa Al-Nabulsi, emphasized that this event is distinctive in that it brings together the spirit and essence of the university through its focus on scientific research, innovation, and communication. She noted that the role of the Deanship goes beyond administrative functions to empowering students to present their theses with clarity and enjoyment, and to achieve effective communication with society as a whole.

The Dean of Scientific Research, Prof. Ilham Al-Khatib, noted that the competition represents a well-established academic experience adopted by leading academic institutions worldwide, and serves as an advanced model for enhancing the impact of research and linking it to society and its issues. She added that it also strengthens participants’ communication skills, critical thinking, and self-confidence. By hosting this competition, she emphasized, the university affirms that it is an integral part of the global academic landscape and that Palestine is present not only as a participant but also as an initiator and shaper of the experience.

As-har Al-Natsheh won first place, Faten Nassar came in second, and Bashaer Al-Natsheh secured third place, while Sawsan Estifan received the Audience Choice Award.

It is worth noting that the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is being held for the first time in Palestine. It is a global academic competition that allows graduate students to present their scientific research in just three minutes, using a single static presentation slide, with a focus on simplifying the research idea and clearly conveying its significance in an engaging manner for non-specialist audiences.

The competition aims to develop scientific communication, presentation, and persuasion skills and to enhance researchers’ ability to convey their ideas effectively within a limited time frame. It originated at the University of Queensland in Australia and has since spread globally across universities and academic institutions.
