The Department has three divisions: neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry. This unique collaboration between the nervous system related specialties aims to provide a comprehensive patient care system, an outstanding unique teaching environment for health care professionals at the undergraduate, and a foundation for innovative research in the field of neurosciences.
Psychiatry & Clinical Neurosciences
The Mission of Psychiatry & Clinical Neurosciences is to promote and support education and clinical training in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders through several courses in order to achieve competitive learning outcomes and conduct innovative research in basic and clinical neurosciences and psychiatry. In addition, the department encourages our students to develop caring
and professional relationships with our patients in order to motivate them for their role in advocating against the stigma so often related to psychiatric conditions.
The objective of our department is to prepare graduates for the autonomous practice of clinical neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry. The clinical training is based on supervised and progressively graduated clinical work with outpatients and inpatients settings. The clinical neurosciences courses require medical students to obtain competencies in the following areas:
- Broad theoretical basis of clinical practice.
- Clinical skills, professional attitudes which able graduates to practice medicine safely, ethically and effectively.
- Diagnostic tests relating to neurosciences
- Working with the members of the health team and delegate responsibilities to team members through his knowledge of the administration.
- Solving community health problems through high standard practice and research programmes
- Develop an objective approach to human behavior
- Develop ability to make adequate contact with psychiatric patients
- Become knowledgeable about mental illnesses, disorders and mental health in general • Became able to integrate knowledge and competencies acquired in other clinical rotations with the new insights, information and skills learned in the psychiatry course • Develop ever more psychological mindedness and self-awareness
