Major Responsibilities

The Major Responsibilities outlined below aim to enhance the educational process by promoting quality, integration, and continuous improvement. They focus on curriculum development, modern teaching methods, and strengthening academic staff capacity. Together, these responsibilities support programme evaluation and achieving national and international academic accreditation.

It is involved in all aspects of the education process and evaluation of programme including Curriculum development and reform, preparing syllabi with specific learning objectives.

– Proposing new educational methods to advance the educational process in order to integrate biomedical and clinical (Evidence-based Medicine and Problem based learning)

– Involvement in evaluation of education programs and continuous quality improvement

MEAU will participate in upgrading the capabilities of the academic staff members to suit their educational, research, and service responsibilities, and to make them qualified enough to help the faculty achieve its mission.

It is involved in obtaining the academic accreditation at the national and international levels

Curriculum and Medical Education Development Committee

Purpose

Continuous upgrading of the educational process at Faculty of Medicine and Enhancing Curriculum development and reform and prepare faculty development programs.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the development and revision of learning objectives and courses outline.
  2. Determine overall goals (including service, education, research, and administration) of the faculty of Medicine undergraduate program, in keeping with accreditation standards and Medical Education (curriculum goals and objectives).
  3. Oversees the delivery of the curriculum including instructional methods, academic schedule, appointment of course directors and theme leaders.
  4. Uses the findings from evaluation to revise learning objectives and content, (addressing any gaps and eliminating unnecessary redundancies), and to revise instructional and assessment methods.
  5. Considers new developments in medical education theory and practices, reviews proposals for innovations, and approves pilot projects and modifications to the curriculum.
  6. Certifies the adequacy of educational resources (such as study space, digital learning materials, access to the internet)
  7. Provides the common vision and oversees the strategic planning, policy development, implementation, management of the continuous medical education program.
  8. Design and deliver educational faculty development programs for faculty of medicine members.
  9. Establish workshops for development of academic staff.

Assessment and Examinations Committee

Purpose

Assessment is the process of forming a judgment about the quality and extent of student achievement or performance, and therefore, assessment supports the Faculty emphasis on continuous improvement and its strategic goal to enhance student success and improve teaching and learning. Assessment occurs at the programme and course level to ensure the achievement of programme mission statements and programme intended learning outcomes

Responsibilities

  1. Administration of student assessment in order to follow faculty regulations and instructions regarding - Association of Methods of assessment with intended learning outcomes and competencies courses and programme - Using of different assessment methods (formative and summative assessments)
  2. Ensures that the procedures related to formative and summative assessments of performance, used to record, transmit and present to students for their review all adhere to standard practices
  3. Approval of timetables and invigilation guidelines of final examination
  4. Reporting the appraisal of the assessment process to the concerned bodies (Curriculum Committee, Students Affairs Committee, Programme Evaluation Committee and the Dean)
  5. Periodically a. reviewing a sample of examination question papers and analysis of exams to ensure that the appropriate assessment methods that match the learning objectives have been selected and reviewing the distribution of grades b. reviewing item performance c. analysis of examinations
