The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology is the only pre-clinical department encompassing two significant biomedical areas. It offers academic courses in Physiology and Pharmacology to undergraduate medical students. The department is one of five basic biomedical science departments within the Faculty of Medicine and it has recently experienced a period of growth and rejuvenation. It is home to a group of dynamic faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
Pathology and Histology
The Mission of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology is to carry out basic research of recognized excellence, and evidence-based teaching in physiology and pharmacology for medical students, expanding on our track record of innovation and excellence in both research and teaching.
Our primary objectives are to provide the resources and opportunities that foster excellence in research among faculty, fellows, and students, to provide a superior teaching resource to medical and graduate students, to develop graduate students to become independent researchers in physiology and related fields, and provide exemplary service to the medical school and University.
