Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Imad Abu Kishek, Al-Quds University launched its endowment initiative in the Republic of South Africa during a week-long tour of Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town. This strategic step aims to strengthen the University’s long-term sustainability, expand its network of supporters and international partnerships, and build on its longstanding relationship with South Africa’s Muslim community.

The endowment was launched in cooperation with Islamic Relief South Africa, marking the culmination of a year-long collaborative effort that began with the signing of an agreement to establish the Al-Quds University Endowment. Over the course of the year, both parties worked to complete the necessary institutional and administrative arrangements, paving the way for the endowment’s official large-scale launch during the tour of the three cities. This initiative strengthens the endowment’s role in advancing the University’s mission and ensuring the sustainability of its academic and research projects.

The tour began in Durban, where the establishment of the endowment was announced at a ceremony attended by prominent representatives of governmental, civil society, and charitable institutions, reaffirming the strength of the partnership between the University and its supporters in South Africa.

In Johannesburg, the endowment’s second fundraising event was attended by South Africa’s former Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Grace Naledi Pandor, along with several business leaders and prominent community figures. During the event, the official commencement of the endowment’s activities was announced, highlighting its role in supporting the University’s programs and future projects.

The tour concluded in Cape Town with the launch of the endowment’s charitable and community programs, officially commencing its operations following the series of events held across the three cities. The occasion reflected the strong support of the local community and the friends of the University for its academic and national mission.

Prof. Dr. Imad Abu Kishek emphasized that this initiative marks an important milestone in Al-Quds University’s journey. It contributes to building a sustainable model for supporting higher education and scientific research while strengthening the University’s global presence and partnerships with institutions and communities committed to supporting Palestine.
