Professor Igbariyeh discussed the biological underpinnings of brain function and the influence of its physiological processes and hormonal activity, particularly stress and happiness hormones, on an individual’s perception of reality, behavior, productivity, and mental and psychological well-being. He addressed the impact of psychological stress on the brain and the promotion of positive thinking through mechanisms such as the avoidance of negative thought patterns, exercise, prayer, meditation, and the consumption of foods and beverages that stimulate endorphin secretion, also known as the “happiness hormone.” The purpose of these mechanisms is to alleviate psychological stress.
Igbariya incorporated musical excerpts from Umm Kulthum, whose lyrics and music were consistent with the main focus of the lecture. He centered the discussion on the relationship between music and the brain, exploring its impact on the brain’s happiness centers and its potential to enhance cognitive function by stimulating the production of hormones associated with happiness and pleasure, thereby fostering positive emotions. The presentation encompassed a review of scientific research that examined the role of music in preventing depression, heart and blood diseases, and brain issues. It also highlighted the positive impact of music on children’s health and the productivity of animals and plants.
