Prof. Dr. Ahmad Amro, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Al-Quds University and DAAD Ambassador at the university, took part in a meeting of Palestinian alumni of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD). The meeting was held in Bonn, Germany, on October 3–4, 2026, under the theme “Academic Reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.”

On the first day, Prof. Dr. Amro spoke at the main panel discussion, which focused on the practical steps needed to rebuild Gaza’s higher education sector. The panel brought together leading German and Palestinian experts and academics, including a representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Ramallah, as well as academics from several Palestinian and German universities.

On the second day, Prof. Dr. Amro and Professor Abd Shukri jointly led a workshop on “Medical and Psychosocial Care.” Participants discussed the challenges and needs involved in providing psychosocial support to academics and students, emphasizing the importance of developing practical, sustainable responses.

In his capacity as DAAD Ambassador at Al-Quds University, Prof. Dr. Amro emphasized the importance of these meetings in strengthening academic and research cooperation between Palestinian educational institutions and their German and international counterparts. He also highlighted their role in building sustainable partnerships that support Palestinian higher education, particularly amid the challenges facing academic institutions in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations and practical proposals put forward by participants during the panel discussions and workshops. These will serve as a basis for developing projects and initiatives to support Gaza’s academic sector and help its educational institutions resume academic activities and continue their teaching and research.

The meeting was organized with support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD), with funding from the German Federal Foreign Office. It formed part of a series of events aimed at sustaining Palestinian higher education and strengthening academic cooperation between Palestinian institutions and their German and international counterparts.
