Spanish Consul General Visits Al-Quds University to Strengthen Academic and Cultural Cooperation

Prof. Dr. Imad Abu Kishek welcomed the Consul General of Spain in Jerusalem, José Javier Gutiérrez Blanco-Navarrete, to Al-Quds University, in the presence of Al-Quds University President Prof. Dr. Hanna Abdel Nour and several vice presidents. The official visit focused on exploring prospects for academic, research, and cultural cooperation between the university and Spanish institutions and universities.

Prof. Dr. Abu Kishek reaffirmed Al-Quds University’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Spanish universities and academic and cultural institutions, as well as expanding international partnerships that contribute to the advancement of education and research and create new opportunities for students and academics.

Abu Kishek provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s establishment and development, highlighting its faculties, academic programs, and branches across Jerusalem, as well as the educational and community services it provides to Jerusalemite residents. He also underscored the university’s role in empowering Jerusalemite women and supporting youth through a range of programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening their participation and developing their skills.

Abu Kishek added that the university places particular importance on preserving Jerusalem’s cultural heritage, citing the restoration of the Dar Al Consul complex in the Old City, carried out in cooperation with the European Union and the Custody of the Holy Land. The project aims to safeguard the cultural and civilizational heritage of the holy city. He also highlighted the university’s advanced academic standing, particularly within its Health complex and various faculties, noting that the quality of education and the competence of its faculty members contribute to graduating students with distinguished academic standards.

Abu Kishek also spoke about the Hamad Al-Harazin College of Technology, for which the university signed a construction agreement in February 2025. Described as the newest technological college in Palestine, the college has already signed its first international agreement with La Salle–Ramon Llull University in Barcelona, opening broad prospects for cooperation and the exchange of expertise.

For his part, the Spanish diplomat praised Al-Quds University’s academic standing, as well as its educational programs and community services, which contribute to serving the Jerusalemite community and expanding access to higher education. He also expressed his admiration for the university’s continued development across various academic and scientific fields.

Ambassador Blanco-Navarrete affirmed his interest in further strengthening cooperation with Al-Quds University, whether through academic exchange and scientific research or in the cultural and technological fields. He also praised the distinction and capabilities of the university’s students, as well as the university’s role in building bridges of communication and academic openness with international institutions.

The Consul General also toured the university campus and visited the Jerusalem Technology and Entrepreneurship Center.
