The Deanship of Scientific Research at Al-Quds University held the Scientific Research Awards ceremony for the 2024–2025 academic year, celebrating distinguished researchers from among the University’s academics, students, and affiliates, in the presence of the University administration, college deans, and representatives.

Al-Quds University President Prof. Dr. Hanna Abdel Nour reaffirmed that scientific research is a key priority in the University’s strategic plan. He explained that the research landscape is shaped by three dimensions: the first is the personal dimension, reflected in the researcher’s individual creativity and achievements; the second is the institutional dimension, represented by strengthening the University’s standing in global rankings and placing Jerusalem and Palestine on the international scientific research map.

Prof. Dr. Abdel Nour also emphasized the importance of publishing in the University’s journals, describing them as a global extension of this mission and a platform for showcasing Al-Quds University, Palestine, and their independent research output, while encouraging more researchers to publish in these journals.

Dean of Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Ilham Al-Khatib, said, “Today, we celebrate the male and female researchers who have demonstrated excellence, creativity, and scientific and national responsibility. The 2024–2025 academic year was exceptional for research at Al-Quds University, with the number of research publications rising to 445, of which 304 were published in first- and second-quartile journals indexed in Scopus.”

Prof. Dr. Al-Khatib affirmed that these research achievements reflect the growing support for scientific research, noting that 181 of the studies were led by researchers serving as first authors. She also highlighted the increasing role of women researchers, student researchers, and University affiliates, stressing that “every research paper is a message of resilience and defiance.”

Prof. Dr. Al-Khatib delivered a presentation highlighting key facts about scientific research at Al-Quds University as reflected in the Scopus database. She showed that the University’s steadily growing research output has been concentrated in health and medical fields, while recently also gaining momentum in the humanities. She further noted the recent growth in systematic literature reviews and demonstrated that institutional research collaboration is clearly evident with Palestinian universities and health institutions, alongside Arab, regional, and international universities.

She revealed that one of the University’s greatest strengths lies in its investment in young researchers, with student research accounting for 15% of the University’s total research output. Graduate students and University affiliates also led 110 publications. The Undergraduate Student Research Conference stands as a strong example of engaging students in the research production process and supporting their work, while also offering students from various Palestinian universities, as well as Arab and regional universities, the opportunity to participate.

The incentive awards for the 2024–2025 academic year included the Best Published Research Award in the humanities, biomedical sciences, and applied sciences; the Active Researcher Award from each faculty; the Most Active Research Group Award; the Best PhD Dissertation Award in each faculty; the Best Master’s Thesis Award in each faculty; the Distinguished Publication Award for high-impact Scopus-indexed publications; and a special mention for distinguished Scopus-indexed publications by student researchers.
