Prof Yousef Abu Kwaik

Yousef Abu Kwaik is the Bumgardner Professor of Molecular Microbial Pathogenesis at the University of Louisville (UofL) College of Medicine in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. He Joined UofL since 2003 after moving from the University of Kentucky where he was an Associate Professor. He received his Ph. D. from SUNY/at Buffalo from the department of Microbiology and Immunology. He did his postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan where he started his work on Legionella pneumophila. His current work is focused on Cellular Microbiology of Legionella pneumophila and Francisella tularensis. Interactions of both pathogens with their mammalian host as well as with their environmental hosts are deciphered at the molecular, biochemical, and cellular levels. For L. pneumophila, interaction with the amoeba as the environmental host is studied. For F. tularensis, interaction with the arthropod vector is deciphered through modeling the infection in fruit flies, Drosophila melanogaster. Selected Recent publications 1) Price, C.
