Medical Laboratory Sciences


Medical Laboratory Sciences Department at Al-Quds University is one of the first and distinguished departments at the national level. The department includes an experienced staff in both practical and theoretical fields. The Department Staff includes two Associate Professors, five Assistant Professors, four Senior Lecturers and five Teaching Assistants.

The Department staff has a diversity of specialization in the field of Medical Laboratory Sciences. In addition to that, the department includes well-equipped labs for practical training, where the students are trained on the new skills acquired in the theoretical classes.

The department celebrates and encourages scientific research, and supports and facilitates the continuous education, through participation of the staff in many national and international conferences and scientific meetings.

History and Accomplishments: The department of Medical Laboratory Science was established in 1980 as the first department in Palestine that offered bachelor degrees in Laboratory Medicine. The department and its programs have developed greatly since then to keep pace with the needs and requirements of the diagnostic laboratory analysis. Efforts also have been made to offer scholarships to students to pursue their higher studies. In addition, the department offered the upgrading program for the workers in the laboratories holding the two-year diploma to the B.Sc. to provide opportunities for these workers to complete for graduate studies. The department also provides technical support and advice and knowledge to the local medical laboratories through a variety of activities, including the External Quality Assessment Scheme (EQAS) which is unique of its kind in Palestine in addition to participation of its staff in workshops and scientific conferences.

The department always seeks to emphasize the importance of the role of the clinical laboratory in the diagnosis and detection of diseases. Thus, the emphasis on training and providing its graduates with knowledge, skills and sincerity in research and other health services.
