Al Ghurair Foundation for Education expands its financial aids to cover more strapped AQU students

JERUSALEM | The UAE-based Al Ghurair Foundation for Education has recently expanded its program of financial aids to Al-Quds University to cover students enrolled in academic programs beyond the Dual Studies’.

The decision to expand the grant comes in line with Al Ghurair Foundation’s constant efforts to provide better conditions for Palestinian students to pursue academic education and reach excellence, a part of the foundation’s commitment to the causes of Arab youth and Arab sustainable development.

In addition to the Dual Studies’ students of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, who benefited from the grant in the past year, the students who are in their first or second year of study in the programs of Computer Engineering, Architectural Engineering, and Food Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and those in the Computer Science of the Faculty of Science and Technology can now apply for the grant. Prospect students who will have finished school education in the future will also have the opportunity to receive Al Ghurair’s scholarship provided that a student’s grades in the last two years at school are 85% and above.

The package recently announced includes full tuition fees waiver, health insurance and accommodation allowances, and a monthly pocket money to cover other living expenses.
Students eligible for the scholarship have to demonstrate excellent academic performances, besides being financially indigent. The grant will then be determined based on formal grade reports and a reliable detailed social survey to identify the academically-brilliant and financially-needy students.

The Abdullah Al Ghurair Foundation focuses its work on creating opportunities to activate the untapped potential of Arab youth, providing underserved, high-achieving students with the scholarships, support, and skills training that they need to thrive. As Such, the foundation approaches philanthropy as “a catalyst for innovation in education and for achieving sustainable development in the Arab region”.

Al-Quds University offers the largest financial aid program amongst Palestinian universities, with 45% of its students receiving aid. Established in the late 70’s, Al-Quds remains the only Arab university in the city of Jerusalem. It currently offers 105 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, taught through its fifteen degree-granting faculties and institutes.
