Guidelines for Publishing in Journals or Open Source Journals

This will guide whoever interested in publishing on how to start; how to use the provided links, how to submit a manuscript.  Authors who are not able to follow any of the suggested guidelines  or require further support for preparation of a scientific manuscript and submission please feel free to contact our office for further assistance :

Dear author of a scientific research manuscript, If  you’ve reached this location then we assume that you have accomplished your scientific research and is ready to prepare a manuscript for submission to an International Journal in your field. You will also find that we provided you with a few links to Journals in your field that you could use to review as a part of your literature review,  submit to for publishing, or just inspect for purpose of style of manuscript.  These listings are only samples and we recommend that you do your own search to arrive at the appropriate journals specifically in your field of research.
At this stage you at least have collected data either in:
  • Laboratories

  • Hospitals, using patients records and/or clinical trials

  • Field study with or without questionnaires

  • Computational research

  • Resources (if writing a book or a research review)

  • Blue prints of a proto-type/new design/invention

  • Accidental eureka

  • Other non-listed but ethical findings

If you have data in the form of any of the above and you are ready to prepare a manuscript then use the following steps to guide towards the light at the end of the tunnel! A manuscript should include the following basic elements: (One should consult the guidelines of the Journal to submit to as there are variations in style with different Journals)
  • Appropriate TITLE that is descriptive of the core findings but not too long

  • Name of lead author and all research partners in the appropriate order along with footnotes stating the affiliation of each of the author and co-authors

  • Abstract or summary of around 250 words that lists the core research, findings, and possible agreement or disagreement with available literature.  Note the there should be no use of numbers of listing of any references of any kind in the Abstract

  • Introduction or background, this section should have all information available on the topic in at least the last five years of published articles.  One assumes that a researcher would have done this literature search part at the very early stages prior to conducting the actual research. This part is as important as the actual research especially to avoid any later surprises that the work has been published before!

  • Methodology when appropriate, some research involves more elaborated methodology than other.  In this section the researcher states all methods used to collect data and must provide all details of methods of collection which would allow the reproducibility of the research.

  • Results such as Data analysis, graphs, figures, sketches,…etc should be represented in this section following a logical/chronological scheme that makes it easy for the reader to follow the explanation given in conjunction with the analyzed data/case,…etc

  • Discussion of results at this point the manuscript flow is winding down and it will be very important to show how this work contributed to the arena of research in the specific field and to compare to actual available findings and how relevant or irrelevant your findings are.  Also in this section an author could include and pitfalls or suggest improvement for possible future research.

  • Conclusion, an author could have this section as a standalone section or it could be inclusive with the section of discussion

  • Acknowledgements, appropriate to mention the names and contribution of persons whose work does not warrant listing them as co-authors but they have very crucial contribution and input that helped in supporting the researchers and bringing the research to life

  • References or bibliography. This is a very difficult task and must decide which style to follow based on which Journal you will be submitting the manuscript to. Some journals will require that references be listed in an alphabetical order, others require the use of footnotes and numbers, some use both,…etc.  We would like to re-iterate that an author must consult the actual guidelines of the specific Journal.

Very important restrictions in some journals are things such as limits on the length of the manuscript, listing of keywords with limitations, extra charges per extra pages or colored figures,…etc.
Once your manuscript is ready with all basic elements as listed above you must review it and perhaps ask some of your colleagues to review it.  Run a spell check and rewrite it if you have to as to guarantee correct grammatical and structural components.
Once you are ready to submit select the journal very careful.  At this site we provide you with a few examples to get you started but an experience researcher would run a web search of all Journals in the field and decides where to submit keeping in mind the impact factor of the Journal in one hand and the acceptance rate in the other as “the author” must not end up spiraling into a loop of finding a Journal that would accept the manuscript.  This decision must be made early on in the process if possible in order to avoid re-writing or re-arranging references and style.

Publishing your work in other languages:
Please note that if you have your research in Arabic or any other language and is interested in translating the manuscript into English for sake of publishing in English then be assured the office of scientific research at AlQuds University will fully support you to get your un-published manuscript translated, reviewed and evaluated before finally submitting it to the appropriate Journal for publishing.
