Basic Nursing 1/ theory/ 02011 50 (3 credits) / clinical 02011 51 (2 credits)

This course is designed to prepare today’s students for challenges of tomorrow. Broad knowledge base is required to provide care to the whole person in both health and illness and in a variety of settings. The integration of theory and practice of skills makes the course especially appropriate for building foundations for nursing practice, providing a knowledge base for the development of nursing actions and skills and nurse client relationship as well as growth within the profession of nursing. This course aims in helping the student to learn, develop and become competent with skills, most commonly required in bedside nursing through utilization of nursing process. In clinical part the course will enables the students to practice all necessary and required bedside nursing skills before going to hospital settings. For they perform these skills in a well equipped nursing skills laboratory under the supervision of clinical instructors.

 

Anatomy And Physiology: (II)   theory/ 02012 34 (3 credits)

This course aims at providing students with basic knowledge of normal structure & physiology of human body in order to understand the pathological changes that occur in diseases later on. The course addresses body systems that are not covered in Anatomy & Physiology (I), such as urinary, endocrine & skeletal systems.

 

Basic Nursing II / theory 02012 52 (2 credits) / clinical 02012 53 (3 credits)

Basic nursing is a theory €“ based course that combines didactic information and clinical practice experience. This course focuses on implementing and performing the learned and practiced basic nursing skills at the clinical skills laboratory for healthy or ill individuals in the hospital settings, utilizing the nursing process. This course is a 3 credit hours designed to allow students to implement their acquired nursing skills at the hospital settings It exposes students to situations in which they have to care for patients with different problems and diseases. Also it allows students to show their competency in performing the required bedside nursing care.

 

Adult Nursing 1 / theory 02012 54(3 credits) / clinical 02012 55 (3 credits)

The course is designed to take the students through many varied aspects of medical and surgical practice, and introduce basic and advanced knowledge related to diseases. The main aim of the course is to give the student a firm, solid knowledge of the principles and current practice of medical and surgical nursing by a devised learning program which includes classroom lectures, and schedule of extensive clinical practice. To ensure a total involvement and continuity of learning, the student will be given a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of all body systems taking into consideration the normal and abnormal facts of those systems and the psychosocial aspects of disease governmental and private hospitals are used for training of students & each clinical instructor is assigned 5-6 students.

 

Introduction to Public Health and Epidemiology : theory /020 0328 (3 credits)

This course is a basic requirement for preparing students to be able to enroll in the community health-nursing course.  This course introduces the students to some of the principles and skills in public health as well as the major communicable diseases in the area. And to familiarize nurses with the basic concepts and models in Epidemiology that can be used by community health nursing graduates, in the practice of community health nursing in different settings.

 

Microbiology: / theory 0201 233 (3credits)  (theory 2 + 1 clinical )

This course discusses the different types of microorganisms, microbial cell structure and function. The symbiotic associations of the normal microbiota and the human body. Special emphasis on the organisms that cause infectious disease, the mechanisms involved in disease production, and methods for prevention and control. Physical and chemical procedures for sterilization and disinfection as well as specific and nonspecific body defenses against disease.

 

Pharmacology for Nursing /theory 02012 36 ( 3 credits)

Pharmacology is pre-requesting course for nursing students to study general mechanisms of drugs and chemicals action responsible for pharmacological or toxic effect, processes affecting the fate of drugs in the body.  In this part of pharmacology students study general principle of pharmacology include pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics.  Some drugs and chemical that affect peripheral nervous system, cardiovascular system respiratory system, and blood will discuss too.

Discussion of drugs affecting: Central Nervous system (CNS) Depressions, Parkinson, Anesthetics, Endocrine, drugs and antibiotics. In this section students concentrate on nursing implications for drug.

 

Adult Nursing 2 / theory 02013 56 ( 2credits) / clinical 02013 57 ( 2 credits)

This course is designed to tackle the theoretical and  clinical aspects of the medical and surgical disease that are not covered in adult nursing I the main goal of this course is to introduce students to nursing care principles & practice to class room lectures, discussions assignments, and presentation are used for the theoretical course . Nursing care plans clinical teaching, presentations date sheets are required in the clinical courses. Governmental and private hospitals are used for training of students & each clinical instructor is assigned 5-6 students.

 

Care of Sick & Healthy Children /theory 02013 58 (3 credits) / clinical 02013 59 (3credits)

The course is designed to provide a basic knowledge of the nursing care of the child. The well child and the child with health problems, from infancy through adolescence. It focuses on prevention. Promotion, maintenance, restoration and rehabilitation. The course aims to give the student an awareness of the effects of health and illness on the child and his family. The course includes clinical component at selected pediatric health care settings including centers and schools for physically and mentally retarded children. The clinical experience provides the students with an opportunity to utilize the nursing process in providing holistic nursing care to healthy and sick children.

 

Maternal and Women Health: / theory 02013 60 (3 credits) / clinical 02013 61 (3credits)_

The course is designed to orient the student with specific and specialized aspects of theoretical and clinical practice of nursing concerning women's health by integrating cultural, psychosocial and biological aspects of the Palestinian women through their life cycle.  It will prepare the student to understand human reproduction; childbearing, caring for women with path physiological conditions as will as well women.  The course aims at promoting the student to develop assessment skills, quality maternity and gynecology nursing care through the utilization of the nursing process in the clinical application of the course.

The course enables the student to understand the role of the nurse as a member of the maternity health care team and become competent as a care provider in such settings.

 

Geriatric Nursing: / theory 02013 62 (2 credits) / clinical 02013 63(1 credits)

The main goal of this course is to provide students with necessary knowledge & skills to deal with elderly people that aging theories &diseases are discussed, Also the objective of this course is to let students know about elderly people in Palestine society through the clinical practice .Also will help student to provide the nursing care needed for the elderly people and to follow them at home and put the plan need for them.

 

Psychiatric Nursing: / theory 02014 64 (3 credits) / clinical 02014 65 (3 credits)

Psychiatric Nursing is designed to enable the student to understand specialized area of nursing practice that employs theories of human behavior as its scientific aspect, and therapeutic use of self as its art.  It is also concerned with a person's emotional response to stress and crisis and deal with the bio-psycho-social factors that may either enhance or inhibit an individual's ability to cope with stress. The nursing process which emphasizes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, and evaluating nursing care of psychiatric patients in the clinical training is the core of the course. The students will study the maladaptive patterns of behavior, psychiatric disorders commonly seen in mental hospitals and psychiatric out patient clinics, as well as psychosocial disorder commonly seen in Arabic community along with adequate study of path physiology of mental disorders and their medical and nursing management.

 

Adult Nursing 111: / theory 02014 66 (2 credits) / clinical 020146 7 (3 credits)

This course is designed to orient the students to specific and highly specialized aspects of clinical practice.  It aims at enhancing the students basic knowledge gained in the previous Medical Surgical Nursing Course, placing an emphasis on the medical surgical aspect of this field.  Students will be involved in intensive clinical practice to ensure a high standard of efficiency and competency.  The course will aid in producing students who are independent, competent, and responsible individuals committed to provide the best nursing care possible at intensive clinical settings.

 

Health Community Nursing: / theory 02014 68 (3 credits) / clinical 02014 69 ( 3 credits)

The course stresses the application of nursing, family and community health theory to community health settings.  It focuses on assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care with families, groups and the community. During this course, the students will practice the clinical side in schools, clinics, vocational schools and rehabilitation center.

 

Leadership &  Management in Nursing: / theory 02014 73 ( 2 credits) / clinical 02014 74(3credits)

This course covers different concepts and issues in management and administration in nursing. The management process, leadership theories and leadership styles will be introduced.  An overview of organizational structure in the health care agencies and the variables used in assessing an organization will be discussed. The aim of this course will be directed toward helping nursing students understand the responsibilities of a manager in nursing and how to best meet these responsibilities in the future as this emphasized in the clinical component to better serve the health care system as leaders in the future.

 

Graduation Project /Seminar : / 02014 75 (1 credit)

The course content will include current trends and issues in the nursing practice, education and health care.  Educational concepts will be covered where the student will become familiar with the domains of teaching & learning and the ability to apply concepts in the preparation for conducting seminar, workshops and presentations.

 

Communication and Counseling: / theory 0201238 (2 credits)

This course is designed specifically for nursing students, and is directed toward helping them to build effective communication and counseling skills.  This course will concentrate on communication process, skills, types and principles of brief counseling that is intended to improve mental health, emotional or behavioral issues in individuals.

 

Applied Clinical Psychology: / theory 0201239(2 credits)

It includes the scientific study and application of psychological principles for the purpose of understanding, preventing, and relieving all psychologically-related distresses and dysfunctions. It promotes the status of well-being, personal growth and development. The core of practice in clinical psychology is mastering psychological assessment as well as psychotherapy.

 

Alternative therapy 0201330 (2hours)
It is two hours course designed to introduce students to different approaches and modalities of alternative therapies that are used allover the world. In addition it will discuss the clinical application of these modalities and its effectiveness in promoting health. Therapies such as herbalism, body work, healing touch, acupuncture and aromatherapy will be investigated.

 

Psychology for Nursing:- theory/ 0201210 (2 credits)

This course deals with the basic psychological concepts, theories and the normal psychological functions of everyday human behavior.  It also deals with the reasons why people's behavior is as they do. The course aims at installing a realistic understanding of the student's own behavior and how it is acquired, maintained and changed. Psychology helps students to develop an insight into the nature of man and suggests how psychological knowledge and procedures may be applied to situations of personal and social problems.

 

Sociology for Nursing:- theory/ 0201211 (2 credits)

This course is designed to bring out knowledge of human behavior that is necessary for human survival as human being in a society. Its aim is to give the student basic information about how society functions, and how it influences the daily living of each individual. It is also greatly emphasized throughout the course that man is "Biopsychosocial" being, therefore, it is of great importance for the student nurse to understand the dynamics involved in the treatment of patients and how important it is to take the social aspects into consideration when making out a nursing care plan.

 

Mental Health: / theory 0201364 (2 credits)

This course is designed to enable the students to understand the concepts of Mental Health and illness, and to become familiar with measures that can enhance one's mental health.  It is considered as an introduction for the psychiatric nursing course that will be studied in the senior year. It is a theoretical course that explains human behavior in health and illness, studies the development of human personality, and explains the coping process of the human being. In addition, the course discusses very common psychological and emotional conditions of people during crisis, abuse, death and dying, grief and stressful living circumstances.

Health and Wellness : / theory 0201329 (2 credits)

This course focuses on the use of concepts from nursing, nutrition, pharmacology, and biopsychosocial sciences to critically examine the determinates of health, wellness and illness across the lifespan. Environmental, sociocultural and economic factors that influence health care practices are emphasized. Theories of health, wellness, and illness are related to health-promotion, disease-prevention, and illness-prevention nursing interventions.

 

Health Education: / theory 0201348 (2 credits)

This course is designed to provide the student with an insight into those psychological principles utilizing the teaching learning process. The focus of this course is on instructional skills, teaching methodology of lecture, discussion and presentation, and the application of theories of learning in the practice and teaching of nursing within the classroom, community and hospital settings. The basic assumption of this course is that the ability to teach is an acquired behavior; and, therefore, specific teaching skills can be isolated and practiced in the presence of the instructor and classmates for immediate feedback.

 

Family Health:  theory 0201349 (2 credits)

The family health course enables the student to focus upon the holistic approach towards the Palestinian family. Where they will discuss the culture, needs problems that the families encounter and how to approach or intervene when necessary. The course is based upon the psychological and sociological theories that apply to family nursing.

 

Nutrition and Dietetics: - theory/ 0201235 (2 credits)

This course will provide content of the psychosocial and environmental factors influencing nutritional habits & nutritional related illnesses.  Nutrition requirements related to age, sex and activity will be included.  The basic food groups and their nutritional values will be emphasized.

 

Human Growth and Development:- theory /0201237 (2 credits)

This course is designed to provide basic knowledge of the nursing care of individuals from conception, prenatal period through adolescence to middle age, old age and death.  t presents a comprehensive survey of how children grow and develop and how they learn, think feel and act.  The emphasis is on the application of biological, psychological and environmental factors affecting the adaptive capabilities of individual for achieving the tasks of each developmental stage.


Health assessment 0201256 (2 hours)

It is a 2 credit hour course designed to provide student nurses with powerful tools to detect subtle, as well as obvious, changes in a client's health. It introduces students to examination and techniques of adult physical assessment. Physical assessment enables students to assess patterns reflecting health problems and to evaluate the client's condition and response affect the extent of examination. Health assessment & physical examination is a head €“to-toe review of each body system that offers objective information about the client & allows student nurses to make clinical judgment.



Anatomy and Physiology for upgrading nursing students (0201154):

This is a four credit hours course specifically designed for up-grading practical nursing students (LPN-BSN). The course is built on their previous gained theoretical and practical knowledge in basic anatomy and physiology. It is briefly review the human anatomy and physiology, then emphasizes mainly on the normal and abnormal physiological processes of human body. It also, discusses some medical disorders related to these physiological abnormalities.

 

Pharmacology for upgrading nursing students: (0201247):

This is a two credit hours course specifically deigned for up-grading practical nursing students (LPN-BSN). The course is built on their previous gained theoretical and practical knowledge in basic pharmacology. The course expands students' knowledge in Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic of all medication groups in the sense how they are absorbed, metabolized, excreted as well as their indications, side effects and nursing interventions.


Clinical internship ( 336 contact hours- non credit) :

This is a non-credit program designed to provide the Nursing student with an additional 336 clinical hours in a variety of clinical settings as medical- surgical unit, pediatric and emergency units for the mastery of nursing skills under the guidance of the nursing staff where the student is assigned. It has to be completed in the Summer Semester after the third year of study.

 

First Aid 0200200 (1 credit):

The Purpose of this course is to train undergraduate students in health campus, to respond appropriately to emergency situations. The course content and activities will prepare students to better recognize emergencies, make first aid decisions, and provide care with little or no first aid supplies and equipment. This course teaches students the skills needed to manage emergency situations until emergency medical services personnel arrive and take over.
