Welcome

Al-Quds University's School of Social Work prepares professionals to make contributions that forge difference in Jerusalem and across Palestine. Our emphasis is on critical thinking, research, practice and policy, with a focus on social justice relating to core issues facing vulnerable and disadvantaged people. Our goal is the development of a just and equitable society.

The Social Work Department issues a BSW upon the completion of 132 required credited hours to successful students. To be eligible to study, candidates must achieve a grade of 70% or more in Tawjehii exams (from either the scientific or literature streams) also, recorded a grade of at least 70% after completing the Introduction to Social Work and Communication Skills courses.

Last year, a new academic plan was established which complies with the accreditation requirements of the International High Commission of Social Work Departments and qualifies for international accreditation. The School of Social Work also conscientiously follows all related developments occuring at Israeli universities, to ensure that its Jerusalemite graduates have every opportunity for work placements with community, governmental, voluntary and private organisations.

The School’s inspiring team of academic staff is graduates of both Palestinian and international universities, with impressive and advanced qualifications from prestigious academic and social institutions.

Al-Quds University is the only Palestinian intitution of higher learning offering a stand-a-lone degree in social work; that is why the Palestinian Higher Education Council decided to exclusively grant Al-Quds University the Acceptance to Graduate Program in Social Work, maximising opportunities for interested BSW Palestinians to pursue a Master’s Degree once the required complementary courses and field placement program are completed.

Social Work Program Goals:

  • Providing students with theoretical and practical knowledge to qualify them as Social Workers to meet the social need for various categories including children, the elderly, and youth in crisis...etc.
  • Qualifying students theoretically and in the field to work with social issues presenting on many levels including short-term, radical, comprehensive, and individual, as a family, as a group and communal.
  • Empowering students to get involved in the development and management of social initiatives, consistent with the latest methodologies employed by other social institutions.
  • Providing students with the technical tools that will enable him/her to understand and criticise policies and provide alternatives.
  • Monitoring progress and following up with graduates about employment opportunities; most graduates from the West Bank are recruited in the governmental social services, voluntary and private organisations, while graduates from Jerusalem continue to face certain employment obstacles due to lack of recognition.
