Department of Economics

Welcome to the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business at Al-Quds University. Our Department is committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Undergraduate study of economics is not professional training in the sense that undergraduate training in engineering typically is. Rather, it is an introductory study of a particular discipline, much more comparable to undergraduate study of biology or physics.

On the one hand, some recent graduates of the Economics Department have moved directly into employment in governmental and non-governmental organizations. On the other hand, we believe that our graduates are competent adequate to pursue their graduate studies in business, economics, as well as a variety of other fields.

The vision of our department is to be a leading and highly respected Department for its excellence in teaching, quality of research and professional services. The Department of Economics aspires to: (1) uphold high standards of academic performance; (2) respect students and provide them with quality education; (3) promote employment opportunities for students (4) maintain a collegial work environment; (5) interact with the greater community and sustain improvement.

The mission of the Department of Economicsis to support the missions of the College of Business and Economics, and Al-Quds University by: (1) providing quality instruction to students to prepare them for successful careers; (2) enhancing the knowledge in the field of economics through theoretical, applied and problem-oriented research for the benefit of students, faculty, and programs; and (3) offering service to the university and greater community and to advance knowledge in fields of economics.

The overall objective of the Economics Department is to provide undergraduate students with a rigorous and critical program in theoretical and empirical economics. To achieve this main aim our undergraduate curriculum in economics is designed to:

• provide a firm grounding in modern economic theory;
• instill the capacity for independent thought about economic policies and problems;
• develop the capacity for quantitative research, and
• provide basic descriptive knowledge about Palestine and the world economy.

However, our top priority and first endeavor in the Department of Economics is to occupy a prominent and distinguished position not only in Palestine, but also in the region.
