Dr. ISSAM SARTAWI Center for  the Advancement of Peace and Democracyis a Palestinian non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded by a group of leading Palestinian academics in 1998 led by  Professor Sari Nusseibeh and hosted at Al Quds University.

The Center is dedicated to the memory of   the young Palestinian Neuro surgeon who sacrificed HIS LIFE  in April, 1982 in the Hotel lobby in Portugal while participating in the Building of the Peace Process. This Center is furthermore dedicated to the advancement of Peace and Democratic Values, the improvement of civil discourse, understanding and effectiveness as Palestinians moves forward in its young democracy.

The founder of this Center is Professor Sari Nusseibeh, the President of Al Quds University and a leading Palestinian figure in the promotion of Peace and coexistence.

The Director is Professor Munther S. Dajani, currently University Professor in Political Science at Al Quds University. He also taught at the University of Jordan-Amman, and at the University of Texas-Austin. Furthermore, he served as the Director of the Palestinian Center for Regional Studies, Director General of the Ministry of Economy and Trade, and Senior Consultant at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
